Degrees of Protection Provided By Enclosures

Our Enclosures Offer International Protection from IP31 - IP66

As a manufacturer we hold the various certifications required in order to market our products as having correct, effective IP ratings. Offering a combination of protection against foreign objects and moisture, we can design your enclosure to the latest BS EN 60529 standards. From protection against objects greater than 50mm all the way through to being dust tight, your new enclosure can also be protected against varying degrees of moisture and water pressure; offering protecting from light rain to powerful water jets. We can manufacturer enclosures with independently proven IP ratings, depending on their application.

IP Ratings Explained

An IP rating has two digits with the first representing protection against solids and the second digit representing protection from liquids. The higher the number for either digit, the higher the level of protection; the letter x is used in place of a number to denote that no testing has been carried out for that classification. A rating of zero means that the enclosure offers no protection.

No protection.

Protection against a solid object that is greater than 50mm.

Protected against a solid object that is greater than 12mm.

Protected against a solid object greater than 2.5mm.

Protected against a solid object that is greater than 1mm.

Limited protection against dust.

Dust tight.

No protection.

Protected against vertically dripping water.

Protected against water droplets with enclosure tilted at a 15 degree angle.

Protected against spraying water up to an angle of 60 degrees.

Protected against water droplets from any direction.

Protected from jets of water from any direction.

Protected from powerful jets of water from any direction.
