Should Your EV Feeder Pillar Arrive as Steelwork or Fully Fitted?

At A&T Enclosures, we supply our EV pillars in two ways. We can deliver steelwork only, or our team can fit your free-issued switchgear enclosures in the UK into the pillar. Steelwork only suits teams that want to control the installation themselves. A fitted pillar suits teams that want one supplier to handle both the enclosure and the mounting of their gear.

Switchgear describes the assembly of those components inside the enclosure. An EV feeder pillar is a free-standing enclosure that distributes low-voltage power to a charging site.

The enclosure and the switchgear are separate items, and you can source them separately. That fact makes the steelwork-only route possible, and it also explains why so many buyers ask which route to take.

What Our EV Feeder Pillar Offers

Our free-standing EV pillars suit indoor installations, and we make weatherproof versions for outdoor sites. The specification includes:

When Steelwork Only Makes Sense

Steelwork only means we build the pillar and you fit the equipment. This route works well when your contractor or panel builder already holds the switchgear and has the people to install it. It also suits projects where your team wants direct control over the order of work on site.

You keep full responsibility for mounting the gear. That gives you flexibility, and it also means you coordinate the fit-out yourself.

When a Fitted Pillar Makes Sense

With a fitted pillar, you free-issue your switchgear to our experienced team, and we install it. The pillar then arrives with your equipment already mounted.

This route helps when your team has limited capacity for fit-out work. It also helps when you want the enclosure maker to deal with the physical fit between the pillar and the gear.

Larger Distribution Needs: Our Switchgear Enclosures in the UK

Some EV sites need more than a pillar. Our custom switchgear enclosures in the UK cover larger switchboard requirements, with fully welded sheet steel construction. We build them to carry currents from 400A to 5000A, with ICW withstand ratings from 30kA to 100kA. Ingress protection ranges from IP31 to IP66.

We can fit and connect ACBs, MCCBs and fuse switches. We can also build corner units, overhead busbar sections and height-adjustable sub-floor plinths for sites with limited space.
